Infotech Joins BIM for Bridges and Structures Transportation Pooled Fund Project as an Official Software Advisor

April 23, 2020, Gainesville, Fla. - Infotech, a leader in infrastructure construction software solutions, announced today it has been invited to join the transportation pooled fund project focusing on BIM for Bridges and Structures as part of the Software Vendor Advisory Group. BIM for Bridges and Structures, also known as TPF-5(372), is a collaborative effort of 20 Departments of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Committee on Bridges and Structures.

The BIM for Bridges and Structures project will build upon global efforts to expand the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) standard to bridges and structures. IFC is the standard for the exchange of Building Information Modeling (BIM) data for the International Standards Organization (ISO). Open standards enable the free exchange of information, and utilizing IFC, BIM for Bridges and Structures will develop an open standard for exchanging bridge information in the United States that leverages existing technology so the industry can capture and exchange information reliably.

“Infotech has known the infrastructure construction industry for 43 years, so we are thrilled to be a software advisor to help create the BIM IFC standard for bridges and structures,” Will McClave, Infotech Systems President, said. “We have a deep understanding of this space and what data is needed to share insights and critical information in the horizontal construction process.”

In its software advisor role, Infotech will provide input to the BIM for Bridges and Structures team to support the creation of the national and international standards. In addition, the company will also be participating in the progress to establish a U.S.-based chapter of buildingSMART International and supporting the implementation of the AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures resolution on Comprehensive Integrated Bridge Project Delivery through Automation.

Ron Gant, Infotech Sr. Account Manager, will represent the company on BIM for Bridges and Structures and provide insight from an Infotech support team that focuses on software development, business development and its role as the product development and services contractor for the AASHTOWare Project™ product suite. Gant offers more than 30 years of experience working with the DOT community, including over 15 years of BIM-specific experience. “I have seen firsthand the impact that BIM and data standards have had on complex projects for some time,” Gant said. "This effort is an example of the significance BIM and CIM will have at the state and federal level and the importance being placed on it with so many DOT agencies on board. Infotech intends to learn from and contribute to these findings to drive efficiencies throughout the industry we serve.”
